The Judgement Seat Of Vikramaditya


Question: 1 – Do we know anything definitely about Vikramaditya? If so what?
Answer: We hardly know anything definitely about him but one thing is certain about him that he loved justice and learning.
Question: 2 – Why did the guilty tremble before him?
Answer: The guilty trembled before him because they knew that his eyes would look straight into their guilt.
Question: 3 – What happened to the palace and fortress of Vikramaditya after his death?
Answer: After the death of Vikramaditya the fortress and palace were ruined, covered with dust, grass and trees and were changed into pastures.
Question: 4 – What did the village boy say to his friends after sitting on the green mound? What did his friends do?
Answer: The village boy said to his friends, “I will be the judge and you can bring all your cases before me and we will have trials.” Then they picked up some quarrels and appeared before him.
Question: 5 – What changes did the village boys notice in the boy who sat on the mound?
Answer: The boy, who seemed so common before sitting on the mound, looked very serious now. His tone and manner was so impressive that other boys were a little bit afraid.
Question: 6 – What did the first angel ask the king when he was about to sit on the throne?
Answer: When the king was about to sit on the throne, the first angel asked the king, “Do you think that you are worthy to sit on the judgement seat of Vikramaditya? Have you never desired to rule over kingdoms that were not your own?
Question: 7 – What guess did the king of Ujjain make about the boy? What did he decide to do?
Answer: The king thought, “That boy must have certainly sat on the judgement seat of Vikramaditya.
Question: 8 – Why did grown up men and women put their disputes before the cowherd boy?
Answer: The grown up men and women always received a judgement that both sides understood and so went away satisfied. Therefore, they put their disputes before the cowherd boy.
Question: 9 – How and why did the judgement seat of Vikramaditya disappear from the earth forever?
Answer: The king of Ujjain got the judgement seat of Vikramaditya dug out. He brought it to the hall of justice. The angels supporting the seat questioned him if he was worthy to sit on it. The angels flew up in the sky and the judgement seat of Vikramaditya disappeared from the earth forever.
Question: 10 – Why is Vikramaditya called ‘the greatest judge in history’? (or) Why was king Vikramaditya so famous?
Answer: The guilty trembled when they came before him for they knew that his eyes would look straight into their guilt. So he was called the greatest judge in history.
